.hack//Legend of the Twilight

The story revolves around a network game called "The World". It takes place four years after the "Twilight" incident (from the PS2 game), which not only shook the game world, but also the real world.

CyberConnect Corporation (CC Corporation), the creator and operator of The World, held a "Limited Edition Character" campaign for The World players and participants. The prize of the campaign is the Limited Edition Character itself: the legendary "Kite" and "Black Rose" from the ".hackers" data that was prohibited since the Twilight incident.

A pair of twin brother and sister in 2nd year junior high, Shuugo (the elder brother), and Rena (the younger sister), successfully obtained the Legendary Characters from the campaign. Shuugo who wanted to quit playing the network game, once again had to set foot into The World under his sister invitation.

In the game world, Shuugo and Rena met other players, Mileyu and Houka and they quickly became close friends after several events and encounters. However, the seemingly peaceful game world began to meet with many weird changes resembled to the incident four years ago. But this time, Shuugo, Rina and their new friends are involved in it...

In 2015, CC Corporation`s datacenter caught on fire destroying "The World". By splicing in data from what would have been another project, CC Corp. was able to rebuild the game. In 2016, "The World R:2" was released. .hack//Roots covers the time Haseo spent with Shino and Ovan in the guild known as the Twilight Brigade, before the .hack//G.U. PS2 games.

In the year 2005, a computer virus called `Pluto Kiss` completely shuts down and restricts the global internet network of the world. In 2007, after extensive rescinding of the network, they create and release an online Network Game (MMORPG) called `The World`.

The anime focuses mainly around Tsukasa who obtains the power that damages the player in the real world. He suddenly awakens to find himself in `The World`, being able to feel, smell, touch, see and hear everything as if he was really there. He attempts to logout but fails to do so. Being unable to remember what has happened before he awoke, he wanders around aimlessly to find answers. While doing so, system moderators, the Scarlet Knights, suspect that he has been working with hackers, because of the tweaked character he was with. Tsukasa finds a magical item, that grants him the power to use this fearful `Guardian` that will protect him from harm.

Aozora Shoujotai (Blue Sky Squadron) is a story about Isurugi Takuya, a service technician with the 801 TTS (tactical training squadron). On the first day at 801 TTS Takuya got introduced to the other members of the squadron, who were all female pilots. As he got to the base, Saginomiya Sakura picked him up in her jeep, and drove him part of the way to the 801 TTS building. As Takuya wondered over to the broken down 801 TTS building, he was attacked by a blood sucking bat, which was a pet of Shimorenjaku Yoko. When he went upstairs and opened a door, Haneda Miyuki`s room, where Miyuki was just getting dressed. Then he ran into Mitaka Arisa, who was taking a shower. Arisa and Miyuki quickly pounded on Takuya.

The 801 TTS was an all female acrobatic pilot team. When Takuya heard that he was very excited. But all of it was just a farce. The 801 TTS was where all of the trouble makers were sent. Haneda Miyuki had hit her superior officer in her previous squardon. Mitaka Arisa was always getting into fights. Saginomiya Sakura was a gambler. Shimorenjaku Yoko was a very bad pilot. So what was wrong with Isurugi Takuya? He was... an otaku.
