Neo Heroic Fantasia Arion

In Thrace, Arion is taken from his mother Demeter by the god Hades. In the Underworld, Arion is trained to be a warrior. Finally, Arion and Geedo (a huge ape-like creature who had become Arion`s friend and companion) left the Underworld to find Zeus. Seneca, a small thief, makes off with Arion`s sword and this leads Arion to his first encounter with the forces of Zeus, commanded by his daughter Athena. Arion is captured but is later set free by Lesfeena, Athena`s mute serving girl. As Arion rejoins Geedo and Seneca (and worries about Lesfeena), the forces of Zeus and Poseidon face each other in battle. In the background sits the scheming Hades, and the calm Apollon who seems to have plans of his own.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - The End of Evangelion

The end of the Neon Genesis Evangelion left many questions as to the fate of NERV, the Children, the Angels, and many other plot factors unanswered, unexplained, or otherwise hanging. To answer a legion of now befuddled Evangelion fans, Gainax remade the ending into a two-part movie known as Death and Rebirth which was to supersede episodes 25 and 26 of the television series, which then led to this movie, Death and Rebirth itself being recreated into part one of The End of Evangelion. It begins much in the same fashion, with the final Angel already having been defeated, and the current enemy switching to humanity itself as SEELE unleashes its own plan for the Evas and NERV...and indeed for the entire human race. What role will Shinji play in this ever-tense situation, as NERV gets chewed to pieces by SEELE`s crack commandoes? Will Gendo`s plan swallow up all of humanity? Will Hideaki Anno ever figure out how to end an anime? These questions and more will be answered in what looks to be the final installment of Evangelion. But at what price?

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth

And that is where both the disappointment and the novel value of this tape come out. This is because the atmosphere is done from the shounen (male) point of view, both in the story and in the ambiance. Thus those of us familiar with how 'shoujo' (for girls) romances are supposed to work will find this a different, and almost annoying, experience. The lead character is an interesting male image, largely silent he never seems to quite have the words to say what he's thinking, even in the multiple one-sided romantic conversations that occur. He's strongly physically attracted to this girl (and wouldn't mind losing his virginity) but his own sense of honor, of how things should be handled (and some story interruptions) conflict with this. At the same time we are never given a clear idea of what the woman is thinking, which becomes irritating because we can't understand what is going on any better than the male lead.

<br/>In the end there is a resolution which is sudden, suprising, unsatisfying and unclear...exactly how such an event might really occur. Indeed it is so abrupt that I had to wonder whether the translation was tripping me up. Still, it is very possible that I am reading far to much into a drab, slow-moving and unromantic anime, so be warned. The movie runs for about 40 minutes, the visual style is older and very dark, there is little action and dialogue that I hope was intentionally restricted. The production on this tape is not impressive, and a whole heap of people will probably hate it with good reason, but as a potential shounen answer to the dominant shoujo influence in romantic anime it may contain more than meets the eye.
